| Orion
Platinum comes with the following generators: Ultran
Wave-morphing sampler with four oscillators,
two LFOs and three envelopes, custom velocity response and more.
Morphing, in the case of the Ultran, means that many of it's
sounds are not just one static sound, but go through many stages of change, for as long as
you hold down the keys - it may also respond drastically to key velocity. The morphing
features make it essential for huge stereo pads and ambient textures. It is exclusively
featured in Orion Platinum and comes with a vast selection of presets and samples to get
you started - and many of these presets will make great starting points for designing your
own soundscapes.
Tomcat
Versatile drum sound synthesizer.
This is a percussive monophonic synthesizer, designed for production of a wide range of
electronic drum sounds. Bass drum, toms, clap and rim sounds of all sorts - and with
subtle analogue qualities that will breathe life into any genre of electronica.
When creating percussive sounds, the attack is especially important, and with the Tomcat's
special parameters for attack control, you can switch between five different types of
attack models.
Similar to the XR-909, the Tomcat also has a simple step sequencer built in, enabling you
to quickly program a simple pattern for you drum. Additionally, it integrates with the
sequencer, allowing you to create intricate drum patterns, by adjusting the velocity and
pitch of each individual beat. You can also use the pattern event editor to modulate any
of the Tomcat's parameters for each beat.
Orion Platinum features an extended version of the Tomcat with more parameters, which are
particularly useful in creating better snare, clap and effect sounds.
Sampler
Multisample player with two LFOs and three
envelopes.
This is an essential tool in any studio setup, because of the vast array of sound
libraries that a sampler enables you to exploit. The Sampler in Orion has plenty of
modulation features, editable velocity response, and three envelopes.
The Sampler has real-time and production modes, which means you can work with a less CPU
intensive resampler while editing, and a more CPU intesive, but impeccable resampler, when
exporting your songs to WAV files. This effectively eliminates the need for musicians to
trade off CPU power for sound quality.
You can play WAV samples and multisample patches in SoundFont 2 and Kurzweil (K2000)
formats. And in Orion Platinum, there is additionally support for AKAI S5000 and S6000
formats.

Orion Platinum comes with a complete Program
Editor integrated into the Sampler, supporting up to 32 layers, unlimited number of
keymaps per layer, and velocity layers. The construction of a multisample program can be
performed, with pitch detection, in a matter of minutes.
Wasp
Virtual Analog synthesizer with two
oscillators + subosc, two LFOs and three envelopes, integrated effect unit and six
different filter modes.
A highly versatile virtual analog synth with a very "warm" sound.
The WASP models a good deal of the quirks from a seasoned analogue synthesizer, giving the
sounds a very distinct character that you won't find in most other software synthesizers.
Plenty of LFO modulation can be done, and you can choose from several different filters,
each with a very different flavour.
It has always been one of the most popular synthesizers in Orion - in fact so popular,
that ImageLine (makers of FruityLoops) have licensed it for use in their own products. In
Orion, the WASP integrates with the sequencer, allowing for easy step-based programming of
note slides.
Drums
Flexible 12-track sample-based drum machine,
containing its own step and velocity sequencer.
The Drums Generator, unlike the XR-909 Generator, is sample-based. It was designed for
quick and easy programming, and comes with a simple step sequencer built into it's
interface. Up to 12 drum tracks can be created with a single generator, but of course
you're free to add as many as you need. A single WAV file can be loaded onto each drum
track.
Orion Platinum also supports LM4 Kits, including multisample information (e.g. velocity
layers).
Orion's preset management system makes it easy to load and save your Drums Generator
configurations as drum kits - you can use this feature to quickly try out your rhythm
patterns on different drum kits.
Orion Platinum comes with a selection of 40 preset drum kits on the CD-ROM.
For more advanced editing, the sequencer may of course be used, and makes it possible to
add more complexity, such as velocity changes, to your drum loops, or to change the pitch
of drum "notes" in your patterns. You can also use the step sequencer mode to
program per-step parameter changes.
A special version of the Drums Generator is also available, in which each drum track can
be routed to one of 4 different stereo channels on the Mixer.
Monobass
Monophonic bass synth.
The classy sound of the original bassline, the Roland TB-303, is timeless. The Monobass
generator provides an accurate simulation of a vintage analogue bass synthesizer.
The sound ranges, like that of a classic bassline synthesizer, from deep and powerful
bass, to the well-known crisp and vivid "silverbox" sound of the 80's.
It integrates seamlessly with Orion's sequencer, allowing for easy step-based programming
with accent and slide switches per step, making it easy to program the kind of complex
acid patterns you hear in classic techno music.
XR-909
Analog drum synthesizer, with individual
parameters for each of the eight individually modelled drum circuits.
Vintage drum sounds, with a classic interface for step-based loop programming.
Unlike most other software drum machines, the XR-909 models the intricacies of each drum
sound, using individual circuitry emulations for each. This also means that each type of
drum sound has it's own set of controls, tailored to adjust the relevant parameters of
each specific drum circuit.
While it has it's own step-sequencer built in, for quick and easy programming of a simple
drumloop, it also integrates with Orion's sequencer, allowing for adjustment of individual
beat velocities - and accurate, rather than step-based beat timing.
In Orion Pro and Orion Platinum, a special version of the XR-909 is also available, in
which the 10 drum tracks are routed to individual channels on the Mixer.
Wavefusion
Wavetable synthesizer with three
oscillators, three LFOs, three envelopes and three filter modes.
With the WaveDream, you've got a purely digital synthesizer, with no attempts to model
anything analogue in particular.
This sounds created by this generator, are not particularly dominant or characteristic,
like those you would get from an analogue synth, which makes them most useful as subtle
background chords, arps and atmospheres.
With three wavetable oscillators, and three LFO modulation sources, there is plenty of
possibilites for exploring strange new sounds. There are also filter and amplitude
envelopes, and a simplified pitch modulation envelope.
Screamer

Virtual analog synth with two oscillators.
The Screamer is a two-oscillator monophonic synthesizer, inspired by vintage hardware like
e.g. the MS-20, and other analog devices. It features a saturation circuitry, a 12/24 dB
lowpass filter and supports accent/slide.
The Screamer sounds quite different from all other synths in Orion.
It models a limited set of sounds, mostly rough, saturated to distorted kinds of analog
sounds.
Plucked String
Physical modelling synth.
The Plucked String generator attempts to emulate the behavior of a plucked string
instrument, such as a guitar.
The result may be far from accurate to a real guitar, but the sound is never the less very
rich and characteristic.
This type of sound may be useful in many genres of electronic music - especially in
combination with effects, which help bring out the rich but subtle harmonics.
If what you require is something accurate to a real instrument, you will probably want to
use the Sampler with a good multisample instrument patch instead, but for electronic
music, the Plucked String can be quite inspiring.
MIDI Out
Use this module to compose with external
gear.
Take full control of your outboard MIDI gear via the MIDI outport of your soundcard.
The MIDI Out generator fully integrates with Orion's sequencer, playlist, and automation
system, so you can work with your external MIDI gear in the same manner you work with the
internal generators.
Common controls, such as volume, pitch and panning, is directly controllable via 4 knobs,
that can also be automated. Additionally, there are four freely assignable MIDI
controllers, which of course may also be full automated.
Plug-in Support
Full VSTi and DXi integration.
Orion provides full native support for all major VST and DX plugins, both instruments and
effects. Effect plugins (VST and DX) fully integrate with the entire system, and using
them is identical to using internal effects - controls can be automated, and plug-in
effects can be assigned freely as inserts, sends or master effects.
The integration with instrument plugins (VSTi and DXi) is completely seamless -
sequencing, mixing, automation and effects processing all work exactly the same as with
any of Orion's internal synthesizers.
In Orion Platinum, you will also find an exciting new feature for VST instruments
- Preset Genetics. Using two presets of your choice, or two random presets, this feature
breeds new presets - it's a fun and easy new way to explore all the possibilities of your
VST instruments. |

All common interfaces, ReWire2, VST and DirectX are fully
supported. 
As the chart shows, the Platinum
edition supports very high audio resolutions (24 and 32 bit realtime output is
only possible with ASIO drivers and hardware capable of such resolutions).
